As illustrated in the diagram below, a typical user will have EICT™
software and Internet data software drivers provided by Iridium pre-loaded on his laptop prior to going out on the field. The EICT™
user will take digital photos on the field of points of interest, such as environmental conditions, terrain, people, buildings, etc., and then “capture” or import/upload the photos onto his laptop. The user can then crop or ”edit” each photo that he wants to transfer in order to control image quality and transfer time: the lowest image quality results in the fastest image transfer, and in the converse, the highest image quality results in the slowest image transfer.
At the time of transfer, user connects his laptop to the Iridium satellite phone, dials up the Internet data service number and connects to the Internet. From there, the user can “transfer” one digital photo at a time to a FTP server. Average transfer time is typically 30-50 seconds per photo assuming full satellite coverage. After the image transfer is successfully complete, other designated EICT™
users with FTP server and Internet access can download each photo to their PC for real-time viewing and analysis.
